History
Founding of the Gethsemane Church of God
Gethsemane Church Of God In Christ was founded by the late Pastor, Elder Joshua Keller Jr. This upright and devoted servant loved people where they were without judgment. He had a special way of telling the truth so that you could receive it in love. He became a father to many fatherless children because of his kind and compassionate spirit. Elder Keller worked fervently under the leadership of his pastor Bishop J.D. Smith at Triedstone COGIC also known as 114th and Willington. After a highly anointed and successful youth revival where many souls were delivered and set free, Elder Keller was elevated to Youth Pastor and served for many years until the Lord began leading him to start his own ministry. After much prayer and waiting on God, He was appointed pastor of the Gethsemane COGIC by Bishop J.D. Smith. He opened the doors of his first ministry on April 6, 1969 located at 5300 South Hoover where the Lord began to add families causing the ministry to outgrow the facility. He later purchased the property at 9300 So. Vermont Ave. – in Los Angeles. Although it was not a church but a garage, God gave Pastor Keller a vision for his new location. It would be a financial challenge but with God all things are possible. Stepping out on faith and prayer as a great seer Pastor and Sister Keller, Deacon and Mother Keller and Mother Albreta Bryant mortgage their family homes for a good down payment towards the property. With a little hard work the garage quickly transformed into church. Pastor and Sister Keller in prayer and fasting battled the spirit realm for the lives and souls of the saints and the community. Through fundraising and sacrificial offerings the church paid off its entire debt. The Gethsemane COGIC is a debt free non-profit organization because of the integrity and vision of the late pastor Joshua Keller Jr.and devoted members. Pastor Keller and Sister Keller envisioned a kitchen for the ministry. He, his wife and members worked very hard saving for this vision until they parted this life; Pastor Keller March 23, 1998 and Sister Keller May 23, 2004. The Gethsemane Church was under the leadership of Elder Johnny Taylor from 1998-approx, 2009. From 2010-2022, Pastor Keller's son-in-law Pastor Michael Nash served as senior pastor. It is now under the leadership of his daughter Dr. Cheryl Keller-Nash, February 2023- current who endeavors by the leading of the Lord to continue the work running with the vision. On June 12, 2017 the Gethsemane church was blessed to break ground to begin the renovations of the late Pastor Joshua Keller vision!
